I always liked to know the internals of various operating systems, and of course the Linux kernel is a great source of knowledge. If you are interested as well, let me suggest you some interesting links for starting to explore the wonderful world of operating systems:
I think these are enough to get you started on the topic, and you probably can do some search by yourself after understanding these. Also note that a fair amount of low-level computer architecture knowledge is required to fully understand these.
