VMWare Not enough physical memory

Today I had this strange error in VMWare stating that I don't have enough physical memory to power on an Ubuntu virtual machine with 4 GiB RAM. Since my PC has 16 GiB RAM, this simply is not possible, so I googled around and found many fixes, namely:

• Run as Administrator: Didn't work.
• Uninstall Windows update KB2995388: I don't have this update installed.
• Modify config.ini in various ways: There was no config.ini anywhere in the VMWare directory.

So I thought I would simply repair the installation: run the installer and select "Repair". And this simple, the VM booted just fine.
